We are late in letting everyone know
More fair weather anchorages with no one nearby.  We are lucky in one way that the winds are so light, allowing us to anchor in places we couldn’t dream of having seen last year with the stronger winds more prevalent.  We are unlucky in another way – we can only sail when there is wind so our trek to the north is very slow this season.   BUT… as someone said to us the other day, “If you were in a rush you wouldn’t be in a sailboat”.  How true!

Returning to these two bays is bringing warm memories of the great people we met here last year who have since crossed the Pacific.  We find ourselves with far fewer friends in the Sea this season.  It has been much quieter this time around, everyone we know stayed further south, crossed the Panama Canal or headed to the South Pacific.

From ‘V’ Cove we stopped over at the south anchorage of Islas Coronados even though very light winds were coming from that direction making it a lee shore.  We did not have enough wind to get all the way into the beautiful crescent shaped bay but knew we were nearby should winds pick up and we needed more protection.  Already we had ghosted there taking nearly all afternoon to sail the twelve mile distance that felt like a hundred, and were more than happy to anchor.

Isla Carmen, the Other Side

Going north on the Baja side, we decide to visit the East and North sides of Isla Carmen this time around.  Last year we were on the West side a couple of times, one of them when hurricane Paul came through on October 16th, and were safe in Puerto Balandra.  The East and North sides offer: Bahia Cobre (Copper Bay), Painted Cliffs, V Cove, and La Lancha.
