Our First Year Afloat: Thoughts on a 13 Degree Shift in Latitude

We were all humans until
Race disconnected us,
Religion separated us,
Politics divided us,
And wealth classified us.

Sunrise million-dollar view from Honeymoon Cove
It has been a full year of cruising and reminiscing comes easily when this landmark approaches. Over this last month of our first year I started collecting year-end thoughts and wanted to share them with you… but first let me start with something I came across a while back that I felt was pertinent. I would like to give credit to its author but I’m afraid I don’t recall where I read it.

Cave Paintings of Pinguica/Canipole

Be who you are and say what you feel,
Because those who mind don't matter
And those who matter don't mind.
Dr. Seuss

Pinguica / Canipole paintings
About one hour NW of Loreto are some paintings (hieroglyphs) and petroglyphs along a stream bed that our guide Necky of Desert and Sea says are estimated to be between 10,000 and 14,000 years old. I had read the paintings in the general area were around 7,200-7,500 years old so I am not sure of the exact number of years but either way it is longer than I can envision.

Steinbeck (Tabor) Canyon, The Redesign of a Beautiful Canyon

Better to write for yourself and have no public,
Than to write for the public and have no self.
Cyril Connolly

Entry to the canyon
For a second time on our way south away from winter and towards warmth and new vistas, we re-visited a place we had strongly connected with the first time we saw it. For no other reason than to see it after a rainy season or when it was not quite so hot so we would be able to take more time to enjoy it.

Honeymoon Cove – Hanging Gardens

He who does not travel,
Does not know the value of men.
Moorish Proverb

First sunrise over the Sierra Giganta, Honeymoon Cove
Not sure why they call this place Honeymoon Cove but I could guess it has to do with the sheer beauty of this location. Although not the easiest to anchor at for there are MANY rocks to watch for, it is an absolutely stunning location.
